About the rainforests

Even though tropical rainforests seem far away, they are a crucial part of our lives. Rainforests play a key role in climate change, acting as the world's air-conditioning and thermostat.

They are being destroyed at an alarming rate so that rainforest nations can trade in the commodities rainforests contain. With the world's population increasing, there is a danger of even further destruction that will have devastating effects.

About The Prince's Rainforests Project

Set up in 2007 by HRH The Prince of Wales, The PRP is focused on raising awareness and identifying incentives to encourage rainforest nations to develop, but without the need for deforestation.

The PRP has developed a proposal for emergency funding, hoping to support and shape worldwide discussion in the run-up to the Copenhagen Climate Conference in December 2009.
